Stardust

Mother’s Day, and what would have been my mother’s birthday a few days ago, have made me more mindful than usual of her lately.  I remember asking my mother, when I was fourteen and the British Invasion was at its height, what her favorite song was.  She was in the kitchen cooking dinner and she stopped and pondered my question for a while.  She answered that she thought maybe, even after all these years, it might be “Stardust”.  That was an acceptable answer  — I didn’t exactly expect her to say “Twist and Shout”.  And thinking back on it, I shouldn’t have been surprised — She was born in 1910 when the earth passed through the tail of Halley’s Comet.  I like to think that she had stardust in her soul.

Thanks, Joe. That’s exactly the clip I had in mind. Guess I should have clicked on it BEFORE I commented.

To quote the great astrophysicist, Carl Sagan, “We’re all made of “star stuff”. Maybe your Mom had an extra measure.
