Speaking Spanish
Periodically I enroll in an adult ed conversational Spanish program offered through the local community college — I’m in one of those classes now. The teacher is from Chile so has a different accent than I’m accustomed to hearing and there are only nine of us. It’s a fun class. It meets once a week and in between sessions, I do things to enrich my still pretty paltry understanding of the language — try and listen to Spanish podcasts, read children’s books in Spanish, and work toward my eventual goal of being able to totally comprehend the dramatic and steamy Spanish language telenovelas I see on Univision and Telemundo. I’ve been told that things really start to kick in with a language when you dream in it but I’m looking forward to the day that the voices in my head start speaking to me in Spanish. Then I’ll know I’ve arrived.
