Appearances Can Be Deceiving
When I was walking from the parking lot into a store yesterday afternoon, a young man in jeans and a striped shirt came running fast out of the store, chasing a man and woman — he was hollering and trying to grab the woman’s arm. “Don’t think you can just leave,” the young man shouted at the woman as she tried to run, holding the other man’s hand. “Don’t think you can get away from me.” As the man running with the woman pulled her and tried to move faster, the woman became a pawn, stretched between the two men. They were all about the same age and it looked like some sort of domestic violence. Another person and I stood there aghast, trying to figure out what was going on and how to help this young woman. It turned out that the man pursuing them was a store security employee — the couple had been caught shoplifting and was trying to get away when confronted. I guess things aren’t always what they appear to be.
