The Gift of a Campsite
We had four campsites next to one another at our annual family camping trip last week, all four adjacent to the ocean. This didn’t just happen — my husband got up early one morning on the first day the sites were reservable and spent a fair amount of time on the phone to acquire them. One of our sons was not able to stay overnight on the very last night so his family’s site was vacant. When I got up the next morning I noticed a car parked in the spot associated with that site and saw a young couple in sleeping bags under a pine tree next to the beach there. They got up shortly afterwards and left, probably amazed at their good fortune in finding such an incredible place to camp with no advance reservation. I was dying to run up to their car as they pulled away and tell them that our family was their benefactor, to somehow take credit for their happiness. It appears that my current ego management strategy still has plenty of room for improvement.
File that one under “Random acts of kindness”, even though it was unintentional.
