Full English Breakfast
Last year my husband and I spent a few weeks in Great Britain. The people were super friendly and we had a great time. Naturally we ate a fair number of traditional meat pies and fish and chips dinners — and we also marveled at what the British call a Full English Breakfast. An egg, some baked beans, Canadian-style bacon, tomato slices, and fried mushrooms — accompanied by a piece of toast and some homemade jam or marmalade. I really looked forward to breakfast in the various B&B’s where we stayed. I liked it so much that I sometimes replicate this in our kitchen here at home. Yesterday morning was one of those times and shortly afterwards I was talking on the phone to a friend who had also spent time in Great Britain. I asked her how she felt about the food there. “Everything was great,” she said, “except that darn Full English Breakfast.”
