Green Sea Glass

On my birthday I was putting the latest small dinosaur in the tree at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park (Earlier post :”Dino in a Tree”). I was standing there, looking at the photo I had just taken for that blog post when my cell phone pinged an incoming text. I looked at it and someone was sending me a picture of myself standing there right at that moment. I felt like I was in some alternate universe until about thirty feet away I saw my son’s wife, holding her cell phone camera and giggling. “I thought that might be your car in the parking lot,” she said. “So I was looking for you.” We walked down the 188 stairs to the beach and because the tide was very low we walked along the shore a long ways. I’m always on a quest for sea glass and the green is my favorite. She suggested I make a personal intention and concentrate on that while we looked. She said we could consider the sea glass a sign of the intention coming to fruition. I was all over that idea and I even decided it would count if she would be the one to find it. Not long after that, she did indeed find a small piece of green glass, which I immediately put it in my pocket though she was a little disappointed I hadn’t been the one to spot it so we kept looking. We were talking about it again and were about to head across the bridge and up that darn 188 step walkway when we passed a couple walking along the shore and looking down as they went. “If you come across any sea glass, it’s mine,” I joked with them. Not ten feet later, the guy came rushing back with a beautiful and fairly large piece of sea glass to hand me. And it happened to be green. He was delighted when I told him it was my birthday. “Mine’s in two days,” he said so we wished one another a happy one. I’m considering the experience an overall omen of good things to come.
