If At First You Don’t Succeed…………

Our family was together on Mother’s Day and we laughed about some of the things my husband’s mother did. When computers first were available for home use Margaret figured she better stay in touch with things. She was in her mid 80’s and had just crossed the line into the dementia that eventually ended her life. But she bought one and decided to take an adult ed class at her local community college to learn how to use it. It was admirable. The thing that made us laugh is she signed up for a class in programming rather than a class in just how to use one. Maybe she saw it on the course menu and thought in order to use a computer, she had to learn coding. She didn’t understand it, yet she stuck with the class for however many weeks it lasted. I wonder what the teacher thought. We laughed but it was a good quality in other ways. When Margaret was very young she worked in Woolworth’s and then as a receptionist in a medical office. Later in life on she studied to became a real estate agent and eventually a real estate broker. Testing had always been a challenge for her and the real estate exams were especially difficult. She had to take the broker test three times but she kept at it until she passed. She eventually became realtor of the year where she lived. I hope some people in the family have inherited that determination to keep on when things are important to them.
