Slow Down
One of my favorite pieces of music is Simon and Garfunkel’s 59th Street Bridge Song. Slow down, you move too fast. It’s a great song, it’s just not very easy for me to put that into practice. People advise me to slow down, chill out or take a chill pill, talk more slowly, stop moving or sit still. Telling me those things is like telling a fish to just step out of the water, get rid of the gills and strap on a pair of lungs. Moving fast, talking fast and thinking fast are part of my genetic makeup. About two years ago I was taken aside by a retired teacher client of mine, who told me seriously that she had had many students like me over the years. I was hoping as she continued, that I would hear the word “gifted”. Instead, she said I might have ADD and should have been diagnosed as such when I was a kid. I felt a little badly and then decided not to take offense. Heck, I bet it’s possible that Wonder Woman has a touch of ADD too.
Mary – this prompted me to go back in my music archives and listen to this great song again. It’s only 1:50 long, but…it says a lot. One of my all-time favs. Thanks for the memories it brought back when I listened to it – several times.
Awesome, Karl — thanks!!
