Friends
I love friends. I have friends that I have known since we were in kindergarten together and I have friends that are nearly new. Some of my friends are casual ones that I enjoy immensely although I see them only occasionally. The friends that connect with me on a heart level, I have learned are called anam cara. Those that I chat with in their yards when I’m out walking or that I run into at the grocery store, I think of as peripheral friends. Some of my Facebook connections are “friends” and some of those have become real friends through our communications. There are people that are friends for a short time because we are in a class or a political group together — sometimes these turn into long term relationships. One person became my friend on the basis of having the same soft heart for animals that I do. One of my favorite quotes, and I don’t know who said it or I would credit that person: Friends come and go like the waves of the ocean but the true ones stay like an octopus on your face.
