The Sound of a Train

I heard a train whistle moaning far away when I was out walking this morning and it reminded me of Paul Simon’s lyrics — everyone loves the sound of a train in the distance, everyone thinks it’s true.  I do love that sound — it wakens my hobo nature.  Hearing a train whistle makes me want to hop a freight train and ride the rails — even though not only would I be arrested for trying to do that, I’d probably kill myself trying to hop on anything.  A couple of years ago I took Amtrak from my home here in the Northwest to visit my family in the Midwest — it was such a wonderful experience, I can’t wait to do it again sometime.  Everyone loves the sound of a train in the distance, everyone thinks it’s true.
