Control Issues

I had breakfast with a friend last week and the two of us had a good time laughing about control issues.  We’ve both recently retired and apparently without businesses of our own, we’re looking for other things we can control.  That particular day I was being driven a teensy bit crazy because I hadn’t seen my backyard deer for several days and I was afraid something might have happened to her and to her fawn.  I can’t control that. The noise of the power washer next door?  Can’t control it.  My husband’s need to endlessly research any product he’s considering buying?  Can’t control that either. The fact that the temperature is predicted to be above one hundred degrees next weekend when I’m hosting a neighborhood block party?  Can’t do anything about it.  Now that I think of it, even when I was running my own business and doing my own scheduling, I still couldn’t control all aspects of it. When it comes right down to it, there are very few things I can control.  Sigh.  All I can do is try to turn my reactions into non-reactions.  That’s about it.

And by turning your reaction into non-reactions, you are controlling the one thing and the ONLY thing that all of us can control – ourselves. I’m still workin’ on it. Good for you.
