My Muse

When I started writing my Lightly Tethered blog more than ten years ago, just for fun I advertised with my Facebook friends for a muse. A long-time friend responded and even went so far as to replace the actual work description on her Facebook profile from “Librarian at George Washington University in Washington, DC” to “Muse to Mary Kunkel”, which I found delightful. She was so much fun. She ended up with serious health issues however, and she died a couple of years ago. So I enlisted a little handmade doll I had bought outside of Guadalajara a bunch of years ago as my alternate muse, until I could find another one. But now SeƱora Morada is tired and wants to retire. I had a candidate who took the position briefly and then bailed. I was in the market again and realized I have a wonderful friend in Spokane, where I lived until a couple of years ago. She faithfully not only reads all my blog posts but takes time to email me her thoughts on what I have written. And I find myself, when I post something, wondering what her take on it will be. An added bonus: a lot of times when she writes, she inadvertently gives me ideas for another piece. She’s been my muse for a long time.
