Volcanic Learning Process
While I was still working, one of my clients was an elderly woman whose family decided massage therapy would be a good addition to her life. She was delightful and I was happy her family sent her to me. One day she came in grumbling slightly, because she hadn’t learned anything new that day yet. Her son called her each evening and asked her what she had learned during the day. It could have been a new word, something new in politics, the name of a bird, anything. His only criteria was that it be something she hadn’t known before. She was in her nineties and may have thought there was nothing new for her but his challenge made her realize there are tons of new things out there for everybody. What a great idea, I thought, and after that have tried to learn something new every day too. I am not only learning new things, I am learning there are countless things I’ve never heard of or imagined. Today I saw on the BBC website that people are being evacuated near a volcano in Ethiopia because it’s showing signs of an upcoming eruption. Whoever gave much thought to whether or not there are active volcanoes in Ethiopia?!? Certainly not me. So I did a search and found there are at least four large ones and not just the one currently in the news. I opened Google Earth and looked at pictures, both in 2-D and 3-D. Indeed, there are large volcanoes with mega craters from past activity in Ethiopia. So my question is this: I learned about Ethiopia evacuations AND I looked at actual pictures of specific Ethiopian volcanoes. Does this count for two days of new information or just one??
